Black to School: Kingmakers of Oakland’s Community Launch & Youth Resource Event

As summer winds down, Kingmakers of Oakland is gearing up to launch the new academic year with purpose, energy, and community power. Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 15th, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, as we host our annual Black to School event right at the KOO Labs Design Center & Production house!

This isn't just a back-to-school gathering, it’s a full community Community engagement initiative where youth empowerment meets collective action. Hosted across our studio and parking lot, the day is packed with interactive experiences designed to inspire, equip, and celebrate our black youth.

What’s in store for the day:

  • School Supplies Drive: Essential resources and gear distributed to ensure our students start day one strong and confident.

  • Interactive Creative Workshops: Hands-on, 30-minute breakout sessions in Apparel Design , Video production , animator training , music production programs, and our signature Crowns Curriculum.

  • Community Marketplace & KOO Experience: Studio tours, youth-produced media showcases, local food vendors, and live main-stage activations.

Whether you're a student ready to focus on Skill development, a parent looking for resources, or a neighbor wanting to support our local black community, there is a place for you in this movement.

Admission is completely free, but workshop spaces are capped to keep sessions focused and hands-on. Head to our Eventbrite to RSVP today.

Let’s step into the school year unified and crowned and committed to advancing Educational equity!
