Fatherhood Summit 2025 Recap

Reflections from Chris Chatmon

It was an honor to join this year’s Fatherhood Summit, hosted by the Fathers Corps, and to stand in community with fathers, father-figures, families, and partners all committed to uplifting the role of fatherhood. This gathering reminded me of the wisdom in the African philosophy of Ubuntu“I am because we are, we are because I am. May the circle be unbroken.”

In my opening remarks, I shared the words of Dr. Benjamin E. Mays, reminding us that we only have “just a minute” — and that what we choose to do with that minute defines our legacy. For me, fatherhood is about showing up with presence, love, and accountability — not only for our own children, but for every child in our community.

The summit was a space to celebrate fatherhood, challenge stereotypes, and strengthen the circles that sustain us. From workshops on child development and healthy relationships, to critical conversations on leadership, justice, and wellness, the day was rich with learning and connection. I was especially moved by the lunchtime panel, “Walk Where You Are Loved,” facilitated by Maestro Jerry Tello  and panelists: Ozzie Cruz, Keir Gaines and myself where we reflected on what it means to father with love, truth, and vulnerability.

My experience at the summit reaffirmed that fatherhood is not just an individual responsibility, it is a collective calling. When one father is supported, the entire community is uplifted. May we continue to heal, teach, protect, and lead with radical love so the circle remains unbroken.

Special Shout Out and Respect to Bro Kevin Bremond’s Co-founder, Alameda County Fathers Corps for his leadership and grace.
