Kingmakers of Oakland CEO Selected for 2026 James Irvine Foundation Leadership Award

Kingmakers of Oakland CEO Selected for 2026 James Irvine Foundation Leadership Award

We are thrilled to share that our Founder and CEO, Chris Chatmon, has been selected as a recipient of a 2026 James Irvine Foundation Leadership Award!

Each year, this prestigious program recognizes innovative leaders who are driving breakthrough solutions to California’s most pressing challenges. Chris was selected for his transformative leadership in "kingmaking", shaping positive futures for Black boys through cultural identity, mentorship, and systemic change.

In addition to this incredible recognition, The James Irvine Foundation has awarded Kingmakers of Oakland a $350,000 grant to support and expand our mission across the state. This funding will be instrumental in deepening our impact and ensuring that every "King" we serve has the opportunity to realize his full potential.

“This award is a testament to the collective dedication of our entire team, our families, and the community that stands with us,” says Chris Chatmon. “We are honored to be recognized by the Foundation as we work toward a more equitable California for all.”

Watch the Award Film The Irvine Foundation partnered with Talking Eyes Media to produce a short, documentary-style video featuring Chris and the work of Kingmakers. We invite you to watch the film and learn more about the 2026 award recipients at the link below:
