XQ Tabling
By: Damari Lawrence
On January 21st, XQ Institute celebrated 10 years of rethinking high school in the United States. Hosting a vibrant block party in Downtown Oakland, XQ brought its bold vision to life by inviting a wealth of local artists, mission-aligned organizations, and community members to join the celebration. XQ blocked off several streets in historic Old Oakland, filling them with tables featuring inspiring organizations and valuable resources for our community.
Kingmakers of Oakland was proud to host a table and be part of this powerful event. A few of our Kings represented us by sharing about our work engaging, encouraging, and empowering Black boys, our Kings. They passed out flyers to current and prospective families and gave community members the opportunity to grab some Kingmakers merch.
The event also highlighted visual and performing arts, with performances from talented local artists and an unforgettable closing set by LaRussell.
Thank you to XQ Institute for inviting us and allowing us to be part of such a meaningful and impactful celebration.
